Community Challenge Mode

An addon to add interesting challenge modes to existing Guild Wars 2 encounters. It can enhance existing mechanics to make them more punishing, or it can add new mechanics. This can fundamentally change an encounter, and it requires everyone in the squad to be using the addon and be up to the challenge.

Right now it contains one playable fight: Cairn CCM. I have carefully designed this fight to contain interesting and challenging new mechanics, with the intended difficulty somewhere between recent CM and LCM releases.

How does it work?

It's a .dll that you can load with Nexus, arcdps, or by itself. It can read memory and draw on your screen. It also connects to a server with extremely limited information to make sure that everyone in the squad gets to see the same random mechanics.

Is it safe? Is it TOS? Why should I trust you?

Generally, do not trust random .dlls from the internet. But I cannot release the source code yet. So I ask that you trust me on this one, as someone who loves gw2 and has written addons for many years. My work includes GWToolbox++ for GW1, and VfxDenoiser for GW2. In terms of TOS, it is no safer or more dangerous than most public dll addons. It does not play for you, but it can send /gg, at most once per fight.

Usage

  1. First, find a group of friends interested in attempting this. You can also try it solo and it adjusts with fewer than 10 players.
  2. Everyone should install and activate the addon, see below.
  3. Create a squad, and enter the instance. You will see a signpost next to the in-game challenge mote. Stand there to turn on the Community Challenge Mode. Make sure everyone in the squad is connected before you begin. In the options, you can select the server in NA or EU. Everyone in the squad must be using the same server.

Installation

Install one of the following options, whichever you prefer.

With Nexus

  1. Download CommunityChallengeMode.dll.
  2. Move it to Guild Wars 2/addons/.
  3. Open Nexus, refresh the addon list or restart the game. Load Community Challenge Mode.

Nexus keeps it up to date. Options are in Nexus's options window.

With arcdps, without Nexus

  1. Download arcdps_CommunityChallengeMode.dll.
  2. Move it to Guild Wars 2/, beside Gw2-64.exe.

Alt+Shift+O to open options. It does not update itself. Download it again for a new version.

With neither

  1. Download d3d11.dll.
  2. Move it to Guild Wars 2/, beside Gw2-64.exe. If a d3d11.dll is already there, rename that one to d3d11_chainload.dll first.

Alt+Shift+O to open options. It does not update itself. Download it again for a new version. On Linux, add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d11=n,b" to the game's launch options.
